Advocacy

I almost didn’t include this page on this website, because everyone has causes they care about, and virtue-signaling is godawful, but I could not pass up the opportunity to draw attention to two organizations that I love and are doing important work. So here you go.

Animal Rights

Back when l was little, I ruined every family fishing trip by standing on the bow of the boat screaming, “Throw that fish back, it has a family!” I am 64 and still have relatives who remember this behavior, and not fondly. Regardless, I still am crazy for the animals, holding Proverbs 12:10 dear to my heart. (That’s the one that says we should treat animals as sentient beings, not property.)  I am proud to be a longtime board member of The Humane Society of The United States, whose courageous team works tirelessly to end animal cruelty in all its forms around the world.

Central Park

There are lots of great cities in the world, but I’m voting for New York as the greatest of them all. But New York can also be insanely intense and harsh, which is why Central Park is so important. It gives all New Yorkers a place to relax and connect and play. It gives New Yorkers a place to exhale. Decades ago, the Park was on the brink of complete collapse from disregard and disrepair. Then, miraculously, a group of generous, forward-thinking citizens stepped forward and saved it, bringing it to its present glory, as a respite for all New Yorkers. I am proud to be part of the Central Park Conservancy, which continues that vital work today.
